Events: 

Each year we host the SSG Tanner Grone Memorial 5k a special race dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of SSG Tanner Grone, a beloved local community member who enjoyed bringing people together and having fun. This event, organized by Tanner's sister and one of his best friends, will celebrate his love for community, family, and friendships, while raising funds to support a Gorham High School Senior who shares values close to his heart.

Tanner enlisted in the Army on July 11, 2017, and to honor his service and his spirit, the race will take place each year in July. The month that marked the beginning of his military journey, and the beginning for finding himself. 

The 5K course will start at Tanner’s soccer field, a place where he excelled and made lifelong memories. The race will wind its way through the town, passing Tanner’s childhood home and the schools he attended, offering participants a heartfelt journey through a few of the places that shaped his life.

Post-race celebrations will include light refreshments, music, and the exciting Figure-Eight Challenge, a nod to Tanner’s speed and competitive spirit during soccer practices, where he always finished first. 

Come run, walk, or cheer on participants as we honor SSG Tanner Grone — a true friend, brother, and hero. Let’s unite in his memory and continue the legacy he built of love, camaraderie, and service.

SSG Tanner Grone Memorial Scholarship

The Staff SGT. Tanner W. Grone Memorial Award was established to provide financial assistance to a graduating senior of Gorham Middle High School who will either be enlisting in the military or pursuing a career in the trades.
The recipient will be chosen by the family and friends of Staff SGT. Tanner W. Grone. The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient at the annual scholarship awards night.
Criteria:
Priority will go to the candidate who is pursuing a career in any of the following:

• Military

• Mechanic

• Plumber

• Electrician

• Landscaper

• Painter

• Carpenter

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities:

• Loyalty

• Determination

• Community Pride

• Leadership

• Loves for the outdoors and riding ATV's

• Courage

• Loves playing sports

As we move forward, we are dedicated to exploring additional ways to give back—whether through scholarships, community outreach, or new initiatives that uplift military families and strengthen the values of Focus, Integrity, Valor, and Endurance that Tanner lived by and the aircraft 490 crew. 

Our goal is not only to remember their lives, but to carry their spirit into the future by supporting others, inspiring resilience, and creating opportunities that make a difference. Together, we will ensure their legacy continues to shine through every life touched by the work of the FIVE Foundation.
